Earthquake in Delhi: 6 killed as 6.3-magnitude earthquake hits Nepal; strong tremors felt in Delhi, neighbouring areas

After Wednesday night's tremors caused buildings and people to shake, memes quickly took over Twitter. After a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit the Himalayan region near Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand along the Nepal border, worried internet users found humour on Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, and other platforms.

People were startled out of their sleep by the tremors that were felt in Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, and other places. After many people checked their Twitter accounts to confirm if there had been an earthquake, jokes and memes flooded the social networking site. Many used Bollywood songs and visuals as inspiration to describe their experiences.

Shah Rukh Khan's picture from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was uploaded by one person, a clip from the Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Sunil Shetty movie Hera Pheri was shared by another, and a meme from the Gangs of Wasseypur movie was shared by a third user.

Earthquake that struck Nepal

NEW DELHI:  A 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal early on Wednesday claimed the lives of at least six people. According to reports from news agency ANI citing officials, they perished when a house in the Doti district fell. Five people have been brought to a hospital with injuries.

According to accounts, dozens of homes have been damaged.

Around two in the morning, Delhi and nearby areas also experienced significant tremors.

According to officials, Nepal army forces have been dispatched to the affected districts for a search and rescue effort.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred 10 km beneath the surface of the earth.

The epicentre of the earthquake, according to the National Center for Seismology, was 90 km southeast of Pithoragarh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, which borders Nepal.

Second quake in 24 hours

In less than a day, there have been two earthquakes in Nepal. The NCS further stated that a 4.5 magnitude earthquake had also occurred in the nation on Tuesday morning.

According to NCS data, the preceding earthquake took place at a depth of 100km 155 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu.

The NCS had posted a tweet that read, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.5, Occurred on 08-11-2022, 04:37:27 IST, Lat: 28.57 & Long: 86.58, Depth: 100 Km, Location: 155km NE of Kathmandu, Nepal."
